Sara and Zack first met in the early 2010s when working at the same office in Topeka, Kansas, although they're both quick to tell people that while they both graduated from Washburn University (Go 'Bods!) and worked at the same place, they didn't get to know each other until they both relocated to Des Moines, Iowa for work in 2014. Sara moved in May and Zack in August of the same year, and a twist of fate landed them both at the same apartment complex in West Des Moines. Between living in the same apartments, working in the same office, and having a similar circle of friends, the two became fast friends despite their differences. Their separate lives continued for the next couple of years -- there were other relationships, breakups, heartache, highs and lows -- and they were there for each other through it all. Their shared love of music, sports, and good cocktails helped to create a bond that continued to strengthen as they grew closer as friends, and they ultimately decided to give dating a shot in September 2016. They haven't looked back since! Zack moved in with Sara in August 2017, and in Sara's brain, that meant an engagement was imminent. Zack's brain, of course, didn't work the same way. So they continued happily living their lives together with their feisty cat Hazel for a few more years. By the time Zack posed a trip to Napa Valley, California in mid-2020, Sara didn't think anything was amiss (aside from traveling during Covid and peak California fire season!), and off they went to Napa in September of that year. And, on the second full day of their trip and in between winery tours, Zack drove them up to a spot overlooking the valley. There, he got down on one knee, impatiently waiting for Sara to take photos of the spectacular view before turning around to the surprise of her life -- her best friend, holding her dream ring, asking to spend the rest of their lives together. It was all a bit of a blur after that, but she's pretty sure she responded with an emphatic "yes" at some point. :) Now, the two dearly look forward to celebrating with their beloved friends and family in June as they set off for the rest of their lives together. ¡Salud!
